FIREARMS TRANSFER POLICY

Transferring a Maryland legal firearm using Omega Defense Solutions LLC from an internet business, a local gun store or a private party is a simple process. We charge $55 for all transfers.  Ask about our cash price when you arrive.

Please review the following terms carefully as it could impact your transfer request:

  • We will transfer all Maryland legal new and used firearms, regardless of whether we stock them.
  • You MUST comply with all federal, state, and local laws regarding firearm transfers and ownership.  Omega Defense Solutions LLC will only accept shipments from licensed FFL dealers. We will NOT accept shipments from any non-licensed individuals.  If this is a secondary sale (private person to person), both members must be present to do the appropriate paperwork on-site.
  • Omega Defense Solutions LLC will only ship firearms to licensed FFL dealers after receiving a signed copy of their current FFL.  Customers are responsible for the cost.
  • Omega Defense Solutions LLC will only provide a copy of our FFL to licensed FFL dealers. We will NOT provide a copy of our FFL to any customers or non-licensed individuals.  During internet purchases, you will get a number that is used to generate the FFL request from the retailer at the time of purchase.
  • All firearms must be transferred with an integrated Mechanical Safety Device per Maryland Code, Public Safety 5-132: Handgun safety devices. If your firearm does not come with an MSP-approved internal lock, you may provide your own or purchase one from Omega Defense Solutions if we have the caliber in stock. You can find the approved list here:  Approved Integrated Mechanical Safety Devices (maryland.gov)
  • Magazine Restrictions: Maryland law prohibits Omega Defense Solutions LLC from selling or transferring any high-capacity magazines holding over 10 rounds. Any high-capacity magazines included with firearm shipments will be forfeited to Omega Defense Solutions LLC. We are not responsible for providing any refunds or compensation for items that cannot legally be transferred to the buyer.
  • All firearms must be Maryland-compliant. Maryland-compliant handguns must be listed on the Maryland Handgun Roster (or be manufactured prior to 1985). A current Maryland Handgun Roster is located here. IT IS THE CUSTOMER'S RESPONSIBILITY TO KNOW WHETHER OR NOT THE GUN IS ON THE MARYLAND HANDGUN ROSTER.
  • Maryland State Police has a new online firearms search feature which lets you review if a particular firearm is Maryland compliant. Click here to view the page.
  • If you do not know if a gun is Maryland-compliant, we highly recommend you contact the Maryland State Police.
  • If you are active-duty military, you are required to bring in your driver's license, CAC card, and copy of active orders.

TRANSFER CANCELLATIONS: We will charge a $25 return fee if you [1] transfer in a non-Maryland legal firearm and cannot complete paperwork, [2] fail the background check and the firearm needs to be returned to the seller. You (the transferee) are responsible for contacting the seller and arranging the return.  The seller is also responsible for all return shipping costs for any firearm that must be shipped back to where it was transferred from.

FAILURE TO TRANSFER / ABANDONMENT: Transfers will be held for 90 days from the date of receipt unless an extended time frame is approved by Omega Defense Solutions LLC. Any firearm left uncollected (not transferred) after 90 days without coordination via e-mail (sales@omegadefensesolutions.com). Furthermore, I understand that if any firearms are left with Omega Defense Solutions for more than 90 business days without prior arrangement, they will be deemed abandoned and will become the property of Omega Defense Solutions. After this 90-day period, the company reserves the right to sell the firearm, compensating the customer accordingly, while also imposing a weekly storage fee of $10, which must be settled before the transfer is authorized.

Lastly, I acknowledge that if I contest the sale of the abandoned firearm, any reimbursement will be limited to the sale price of the firearm, minus any applicable storage fees incurred during the holding period.

FIREARMS TRANSFER PROCESS

Purchase from an online business or a local store: They are going to need a copy of our FFL in order to ship the gun to us. Upon your request initiation, someone will review the transfer information and upon approval by Omega Defense Solutions LLC, we will send the FFL holder a copy of our FFL license. Please e-mail us your FFL Transfer Request (our FFL e-mail: sales@omegadefensesolutions.com) and include the following information:

  1. Dealer / Individual name that firearm was purchased from (example: gunbroker, grab-a-gun)
  2. Dealer / Individual phone number
  3. Dealer / Individual e-mail address
  4. Manufacturer / Model of firearm purchased (this will be reviewed by us for approval)
  5. Invoice Number (If applicable)
  6. Your Name
  7. Your Phone Number

After we accept your FFL request and we e-mail the seller a copy of our FFL license, they will ship the gun to us for you to pick up. It is your responsibility to make sure the seller ships out your gun in a timely fashion once they have our FFL license.  We will not follow up with them.  Be sure to have them include two (3) things with the firearm:

  1. A copy of their FFL.
  2. Your name and phone number
  3. The Invoice Number so we can match it to your initial request.

After your firearm has been received and processed into our system, we will call you to let you know that the gun is ready for paperwork (Maryland regulated firearm – handgun) or paperwork and pick up (long guns).

  • For long gun transfers, you will need a valid Maryland photo ID (driver's license) and will need to fill out a Federal Form 4473 for the background check. The transfer fee is collected at time of paperwork. Once your background check is approved, you will take possession of your firearm.
  • For Maryland-regulated transfers (handguns) you will need a valid Maryland photo ID (driver’s license) and a Maryland HQL license, will need to fill out a hard copy Federal Form 4473 in our office, and provide Omega Defense Solutions with your 77R Application and PIN number. The transfer fee is collected at the time of in store paperwork.  All handguns, per Maryland law, will be available for pickup on approved applications 7 days from application submission.  Pick-up will be by appointment only.  This appointment should not be made until you have received your final approval from the Maryland state police.

SAVE TIME - START YOUR 77R APPLICATION IN ADVANCE!

What is the 77R? - Any person who wishes to purchase a regulated firearm (handgun/lower receiver), must complete a MSP 77R online application.

What's next?

Once you complete the 77R, you will be emailed an application number and PIN that you MUST provide us when you come to complete your initial paperwork.

Private Sale (regulated or non-regulated):  You must fill out a Maryland 77R with the appropriate private sale checked and provide Omega Defense Solutions with the application and pin number.  The legal owner and the purchaser must bring Omega Defense Solutions the firearm so the appropriate paperwork can be completed along with proper identification.  In a private sale we cannot take the firearm from anyone who is not the legal owner.  If it is a regulated firearm, you must wait 7 days to obtain your firearm in accordance with Maryland State Law. Pick-up will be by appointment only.  This appointment should not be made until you have received your final approval from the Maryland state police.

Outbound Transfers: If you would like to transfer a firearm through our store to another FFL holder, we charge $40 per firearm, plus shipping and packing materials costs. We are open to volume discounts — please inquire for deals we may be able to extend. We look forward to being your FIRST CHOICE when it comes to your firearm transfer needs.
